OPEN CALL - BONALU EXHIBITION

Bonalu: A Celebration of Faith
Bonalu is one of Telangana’s most vibrant and deeply rooted festivals, celebrated in honour of Goddess Mahakali. Observed with great devotion across Hyderabad and other parts of the state, the festival brings together centuries-old traditions, rituals, music, dance and collective celebration. From women carrying decorated Bonam (offerings) on their heads and the striking figures of Pothuraju to processions, colourful festivities and moments of personal devotion, Bonalu offers a rich tapestry of stories and visual experiences.
This curated exhibition at the Indian Photo Festival (IPF) invites photographers to explore and document the many dimensions of Bonalu.
We welcome images that capture the rituals, ceremonies, processions, performances, vibrant costumes, unique traditions and the people who bring the festival to life. We are equally interested in intimate moments of faith, personal expressions of devotion, behind-the-scenes preparations and the larger social and cultural significance of the celebration.
Both single photographs and photo series are welcome, provided they offer an engaging and insightful perspective on the festival. Whether you are documenting its grand celebrations or discovering quieter, lesser-seen moments, we look forward to seeing your interpretation of Bonalu.
The exhibition will be curated by Vinod Venkapalli and co-curated by Phalanvita Madhyala.
Submission Deadline: October 28, 2026
